Real life funnies

For Christmas, Cody's parents gave us tickets to see Gabriel Iglesias on tour last week. We were both really excited, neither of us had ever been to a "concert" (outside of "classical" of course). (However, that got us thinking...if it's not music, is it still a concert?) Anyway, we were both excited to attend the show. I expected it to be funny, and so did my husband. Cody was very familiar with Gabriel's comedy routines, and I, myself was somewhat familiar with them as well. But it was so much more than just funny.
One of my favorite parts is how Iglesias gets his jokes and "funnies" from his real life stories and situations. Instead of twisting the story a little or fabricating things to make it funny, he uses his straight experiences, and pulls the funny things out of them.
When we arrived, we quickly found out it would be a whole new routine with new stories and experiences, not yet plastered all over the social media. What a treat!
Iglesias recently returned from Saudi Arabia as part of his current world tour. My first thoughts of the people towards Americans are "what hostile, somber people! Why would a comedian go over there?"
Well, he had been asked to by one of the Princes in the Middle East.
He shared his stories and experiences from his trip, both the hilarious and the enlightening.
Who knew those people like a good, clean laugh just as much as we do?!
Better yet, who knew a comedy routine could do so much more than make you laugh?!
Thanks, Mr. Iglesias!

My brother and I...we have the same tastes in many things. Maybe that's because of the inseparable friendship we acquired growing up. We have the same tastes in movies and TV shows, in ice cream, in pass times, and especially in MUSICALS! Many a day has been spent at the piano singing and singing to some of the best musicals.

One of our favorites, LONG before the recent big screen release...is Les Miserables. Particularly the 25th anniversary show in England. It's been fun to share that love with my hubby and help him love it as much as I do. Such an inspired, profound, and miraculous piece of work with so much to teach about life and its miracles.

The magic, blue box

Can anyone guess what this is? You may have guessed Macaroni and cheese...the shaped kind! Also known in our little house as my guilty pleasure. When I'm having a bad day or dealing with stress, my hubby knows what ALWAYS cheers me up like magic. Something about it just makes me...giddy!

Sunny reflections

A Sunday afternoon. The sun is shining through the blinds in the living room. One cat laying at my side, while the other lays with my husband in bed. (He didn't get a whole lot of rest last night..!)
I think about church this morning at my parents' ward. We sat with my family and sang with them in their special musical number (possibly the last one as a family before Skyler leaves on his mission!).

Down the row, sat Skyler. We are all anxiously waiting for his mission call to arrive any day now. It makes the next two years seem real. As a kid, it never felt like it would come-- like it would be real and happening some day, even though we all knew it would. Our brother-sister, best-friend relationship has grown in leaps and bounds over the last 12 years...I'm so grateful we are the friends we are. I'm so proud of him, which only induces tears even more.

Time goes fast. Life is short. It makes me think of my dear, dear friend in Arizona. We've been steady pen pals for 9 years and counting. She's aged (9 whole years!) and been worse for ware at times, but has always managed to pull through. There's nothing like knowing one of your dearest friends (and pen pal), states away, could leave this earth at any time. I've often contemplated how I gotten here. How an 8 year old child wound up so attached to the elderly stranger across the street. Enough to be the truest meaning of friends...

And then back to my husband. The one who will work 6 days a week this week, open to close, as he does every week, just so I can have a few days off to be a wife, and homemaker. Such a blessing he is to me. In just over a month it will be one year. One year marking our marriage and the beginning to a whole new set of adventures. What a fast and growth filled year it has been! So many changed, both small and ginormous; inside, outside, and in between our marriage! The Lord has blessed us so immensely, and continues to do so. Life is a beautiful thing. :)
